I have some great dives off Durban, but every now and then you manage to be in the right place at the right time. This video is stunning to say the least. To have a family of Pineapple Fish dance for you is wonderful. This movie is a winner. If you dont dive regular you dont get the opportunity. The seintific name is Cleidopus gloriamaris for those who want to know. The scales are very tough like armour. There is small light organ that can be found on either side of the lower jaw that produces a green glow. The colour of the light organ changes from green to red as the fish gets older. This light organ is best seen at night as it is luminescent. It uses it to attract small microscopic prey to its mouth to feed on. The Pineapplefish grows to a maximum length of approx 22 cm so they say.
