Markus Roth
Markus Roth was born in 1976, as the son of the renowned sports photographer, Hans-Alfred Roth. He learned early how fascinating it is to capture special moments on film or chip. So it can be said that he inherits his passion for photography.
Markus fell in love with the underwater world in 2004. The constant companion on his underwater forays was, next to his wife Judith, was his camera.
He then began experimenting with different cameras... In the beginning he was shooting an Olympus C-7070, followed by a Canon EOS 20 D in a UK-Germany Housing. For the past few months he has been shooting a Canon EOS 1 D Mark II N in a UK-Germany Housing. His preferred lenses are the 100 mm Makro and the Tokina 10-17 mm Fisheye-Zoom. At times he likes to play around with a 1.4 TC, an Inon Makro-Lense or a DIY snoot for his strobes. His pictures are lit with two Inon Z-240.
He has dived numerous locations including the Maldives, the Philippines, Lembeh Strait, the area of Raja Ampat in West Papua and domestic waters.
His preferred destinations are the Philippines and Indonesia.
For him the beauty of Raja Ampat was a mind-blowing experience. The strange creatures that can be found in the mucky waters of the Lembeh Strait are very unique.
