James Dawson
My name is James Dawson and I am from the UK. I currently live in Egypt and work as a freelance diving instructor and journalist. I’ve been living in Egypt for around five years and have been lucky enough to dive in many areas of the Egyptian Red Sea. The diving here always presents new opportunities for underwater photography and whilst there are a few favourite sites, you never know what you might find on any given dive.
I started in photography many years ago with 35mm film but after a long break, took up the challenge again with digital. My underwater photography began in earnest when I bought myself a Canon G9 and underwater housing in August 2008. My kitbag consists of the G9, a Canon underwater housing and an Ikelite DS51 strobe. The compact size, but full manual controls of the G9 make it ideal for underwater photography and I’ll be sticking with it for a long time yet.
My website hosts a wider selection of my underwater images as well as a variety of photographs taken on land in Egypt and further a field.
