The Solomon Islands stretch approximately 900 miles in a south easterly direction between the Shortland Islands and the Santa Cruz Islands, in an area commonly known as the Pacific Rim of fire. These mountain islands are covered in a thick vegetation and forests, and are intersected by a series of narrow valleys and gorges. The population of almost 350,000 are concentrated on only six of the archipelagos 992 smaller islands which make up the Solomon Islands.

One of the main attractions for visitors to the Solomon Islands is the un-developed tourist industry, and to date, the majority of the people visiting the Solomon Islands have done so for the scuba diving. Due to the lack of exploitation by the tourist industry, the locals retain a curiosity which can only be described as enchanting. At present, only 4,500 tourists per year visit the Solomon Islands.
