Solomon Islands Diving

Diving in the Solomon Islands is considered to be amongst the best in the Pacific Rim, and one of the main reasons for this, is the sheer diversity of diving that the Solomon Islands offers. Apart from the usual coral reefs and walls, there are a large number of World War II wrecks on which you can dive. In Honaira, the capital of the Solomon Islands, a six month battle raged, leaving over 40 planes and ships lying on the sea bed, on an area that is now known as Iron Bottom Sound.

In keeping with the majority of diving in the Pacific Islands, animal life is prolific, and regular encounters are to be had with Manta Rays, Eagle Rays, Reef Sharks and Dolphins. On the outer reefs, large schools of tuna, jacks and mackerel can be found, whilst the larger pelagics will often be seen cruising through.

Being located in the South Pacific, the Solomon Islands have a tropical climate, and average temperatures here will range between 25 - 32 degrees c. Overall, the weather in the Solomon Islands tends to be good between April and November, however, the best weather can be found between July to September. The worst time to visit is between the wetter season of December to March.

There are a number of exceptional dives in the Solomon Islands, and some of the best known include the wrecks of the Bonegi I and Bonegi II, and the coral covered wrecks of the sunken Japanese transport ships, Maravo Lagoon and the beautiful Russell Islands.
