Cozumel Scuba Diving

One of the best sites for scuba diving in Cozumel is Chankanaab Lagoon, which offers coral and limestone formations, but does not go deeper then about 30 feet.

Punta Sur Reef is a must see location on the list of every diver enthusiast who visits Cozumel for the special spot known as the "Devil's Throat." It has a depth of approximately 90 to 130 feet and offers a large variety of marine life such as coral, rays, and sharks. "Devil's Throat" is special, because of its fascinating architecture with a narrow dark passage that opens to a variety of caves known as the Cathedral where a cross forms in the middle of the ceiling as the sun passes through.

There are two parts of Punta Sur Reef; the "Devil's Throat" is for advanced divers and there is a spot for beginners to scuba dive and snorkel, which runs only about 18 feet deep. Your diving instructor will only take those that carry diving certification to "Devil's Throat," as it is a significantly complicated dive.

There are scuba diving sites for both beginners and advanced divers in Cozumel, with enough marine life to keep you busy for several days and make your trip worthwhile. You will be able to find instructors, wet suits, and entire scuba diving gear in Cozumel, if you are a beginner or if you don't want to bring your own. Cozumel diving is year round due to the subtropical climate.
