Ireland Scuba Diving

Strangford Lough, Co. Down: A popular area for diving with very strong tidal conditions. Over 2,000 species of marine life can be found here, including seals, porpoises, and basking sharks.

Lambay Island, Co. Dublin: A private island that you must have permission to go on; however, with plenty of sea life and underwater wrecks, this makes for an excellent diving spot.

Dalkey Islands and the Muglins: An area primarily for experienced divers, due to the strong turbulence. However, the abundance of marine life located here makes these areas two of the most dived places in Ireland.

Wicklow Head: The entire head length is nothing but a cliff facing the sea, which is identified by its three lighthouses, so divers must dive from a boat here. A number of creatures can be found here, including conger eels.

The Saltee Islands, Co. Wexford: A busy port with tidal currents that can affect diving, but the wide variety of fish make it a worthwhile diving area. There are many other diving sites here to choose from, as well.

Belmullet, Co. Mayo: A widespread diving area, that is, for the most part, unpopular with divers because of its lack of a tourist town. However, it offers a remarkable deep diving experience.

Kilkee, Co. Clare: One of the most popular scuba dive sites in Ireland, boasting clear deep waters and an array of flora and fauna.

Dingle, Co. Kerry: A wonderful place for scuba diving, but with caution, due to the popularity of Fungie the famous tame dolphin, a lot of boats are out in the waters sightseeing.

Ireland scuba diving opportunities are plentiful, and they offer many beautiful underwater sights that will astound the novice and experienced diver alike. An island like Ireland allows for diving sites to be located on every side of the island, giving divers a vast scuba diving area to explore the world beneath.
