Curacao Scuba Diving

The majority of these dives sites are accessible from the beach, and although there are some wrecks to visit, the majority of the diving in Curacao seems to focus on the shallow reefs shelving the island. This does mean that Curacao is a decent option for the novice diver, or someone looking for their first experiences in scuba diving.

Underwater, Curacao has some good coral, and recent efforts by the Curacao Underwater Park have resulted in some positive results following the years of over fishing in the waters.

There are still good levels of marine life in Curacao, amongst them being moray eels, barracuda, jacks, octopus and manta rays. At certain times of the year, it is also possible to see the migrating pilot whales as they pass through the waters surrounding Curacao. There are also a number of good dive sites, including the wreck of the Superior Producer, a 3,000 tonne freighter which was originally destined for Venezuela, and which now rests on the seabed at a depth of 30 meters.

The climate in Curacao is warm, ranging from 75 degrees F (24 degrees C) in the cooler winter months, up to an average of 85 degrees F (29 degrees C) in the summer period. The best time to visit Curacao is between June to November, when the cooling trade winds are at their lowest. Water temperatures in Curacao can vary, ranging from 75 degrees F (23 degrees C) in the winter, up to around 85 degrees F (29 degrees C) in the summer.
