Antigua and Barbuda Scuba Diving

The climate in Antigua and Barbuda is typically tropical, and as such tends to stay a constant temperature, and relatively dry for the majority of the year. However, tropical storms and hurricanes can occur between the months of June to November. The water temperature in Antigua averages around 80 degrees F most of the year, and the visibility will range from 50 to 150 feet.

The diving on Antigua tends to be focused on the southern and eastern coasts, which are characterised by the sloping shelves, which give good opportunities for novice's divers looking for shallower waters. One of the more popular dive sites on Antigua is Cades Reef, which is a shallow reef dive off the south coast, and which gives divers an opportunity to spot large varieties of reef fish, and possibly some stingrays which may be lurking. Another popular dive site is the Andes wreck, which was a three masted steel merchant ship which sank in 1905 on route to Chile.

Barbuda is far less populated, and as such it is better to arrange diving in Barbuda with the operators on the Antiguan mainland. However, this is certainly an opportunity worth exploring, as there are a great number of wrecks in the waters surrounding Barbuda, many of which are relatively unexplored.
