Mindoro Island in the Philippines is located just to the south of Luzon and the capital city of Manila. The bulk of the scuba diving here is done out of the Puerto Galera area, where the stunning natural harbour and its surrounding bays hold some truly exceptional diving opportunities. Go further inland, and you'll find Mindoro Island is a beautiful place, full of rivers, waterfalls and mountains. Along its shoreline are scattered some great beaches on which scuba divers can while away the hours when not scuba diving. Over the years, the areas around Puerto Galera and Sabang in particular have become more popular with scuba divers and tourists, and despite these increases, the region is still managing to hold on to its unique, authentic charm.
The scuba diving in Puerto Galera is exceptionally good, and whilst the area around the harbour contains some decent sites, it is the area around Escarceo Point which holds the most numerous dive sites. In total, there are over 40 separate dive sites throughout the Puerto Galera area; however, there is a few which could be considered truly fantastic. The Hills is located in the Manila Channel between the Medio and Paniquian Islands. A relatively shallow dive, which is situated on a beautiful reef, is covered with both hard and soft corals.
