Tioman Island Scuba Diving

Today, Tioman Island still resembles the mythical paradise of Bali Hai. The minimal development that has taken place, has been done with due consideration to the natural heritage of the island, and the majority of the building blend well into the natural surroundings.

There are numerous dive centres on Tioman Island, predominantly scattered throughout the various villages such as Tekek, Air Batang and Salang which populate the west coast of Tioman Island.

The majority of the dive sites in Tioman Island are located just off the west coast. These range from the numerous house reefs which are located just offshore, where the granite seabed has slowly become enveloped by a range of corals, through to the dive sites at the islands further afield. Amongst the more popular dive sites in Tioman Island is the small island at Renggis, and the numerous dive sites which surround Tulai Island.

There is a good range of marine life to be found at the dive sites of Tioman Island, and on most dives you are likely to encounter the resident turtles, barracuda, bumphead parrotfish, cuttlefish, nudibranches and stingrays which inhabit the reefs. There are also a good number of reef sharks in the waters surrounding Tioman Island, in particular the large population of black tip reef sharks which are regularly seen here.

The diving in Tioman Island runs from February through to November, and the majority of the island will shut down for the period late-November through to early February due to this being the monsoon period.
