Description:

The Cement Wreck can be found just 21 kilometers South Southwest of the Labuan Marina and just west of Kuraman Island. It is roughly 40 minutes travel via a speedboat from the marina. The Tung Huang was a 92-meter long, 15-meter wide freighter carrying cement for the Sultan's new palance in Brunei. It sunk after hitting the Samarang Bank and then trying to get to Labuan on the 25th of September 1980. One can now find the wreck just east of Kuraman Island, 21 kilometers from Labuan sitting vertically on a the bottom in 30 meters of water. It is a very easy wreck to circumnavigate and as such makes it great for novices. Divers can enter the cargo hold and docks, but be careful of the nets covering the ship. Once easy to enter, the superstructure and engine room have been eroded by the ocean, making penetration more challenging. The ships funnel collapsed over port during the late 1990's and the strong storms during the month of August in 2002, forcing the hydraulic pump to blow numerous superstructure panels loose. One can see a variety of marine life at this wreck such as turtles, lionfish, reef fish and barracuda as well as hard and soft coral that covers the wreck. It is a great site for underwater photography.
