Malaysia is reported to have of the best shore dives in the world and is famous for its variety of marine life. Sipadan, Malaysia's eastern most state has been known to rival Micronesia and the Galapagos in its legendary status. Dive pioneer Jacques Cousteau put this spot on the map due to its extensive variety of marine life, making it Malaysia's number one dive location.

Malaysia's main division consists of its eastern provinces Sabah and Sarawak in northern Borneo and Peninsular Malaysia, divided by 650km of the South China Sea. Sabah and Sarawak border Kalimantan (Indonesian Borneo), and Sarawak in turn surrounds Brunei.

Malaysia's population clocks over 24.5 million and is divided into mostly Malay, Chinese, a few other immigrant groups and indigenous folk. Kuala Lumpur, its buzzing capital, is located on the west coast of Peninsular Malaysia.

Temperatures vary between 20 - 30 degrees Celsius all year round with average diving depths of 5 - 40m and visibility of 10 - 30 meters. Malaysia leads the new macro diving trend - Muck diving, which entails discovering tiny and rarely observed marine creatures in an environment that does not require visibility.

It's the big fish that make the experience here so thrilling. Larger pelagics such as hammerheads, barracuda, bumphead parrot fish, trevally and turtles grace breath-taking coral gardens. Site names such as Barracuda Point, Sipidan Midreef , Turtle Cavern and the Drop-off should indicate their diversity.
