The most interesting and best specific dive site in the Bali area is the Tulamben shipwreck. The Tulamben shipwreck is the site of the American U.S.A.T. Liberty, which sank during World War II after a torpedo attack by a Japanese submarine. The Tulamben wreck is one of the best shipwreck dives in Asia. The hull is mostly intact and has, over time, formed an artificial reef that is home to a wide variety of underwater life. The shallower parts of this wreck make this an accessible dive for beginning divers as well as more experienced scuba divers.
Scuba diving is viable year round in the waters around Bali. Typically gentle currents allow for diving opportunities even for those just beginning. The water is calm, and the temperatures range from nineteen to twenty-six degrees Celsius.
