Bali is Indonesia's most popular dive location, with lovely and interesting dives, as well as a great general vacation location with beauty, interesting sites, and stunning local artwork. Good shore-based diving includes everything from coral reefs to shipwrecks. Bali lies between Java and Lombok, and is accessible by air from many major Asian airports. Modern tourist facilities, great historical palaces and temples, gorgeous volcanic landscapes, beautiful beaches, as well as the stunning dives make Bali a popular destination for divers and those looking for an exotic vacation alike.
The waters around Bali offer varied dive conditions, including reef and lots of coral, although some of it has been damaged. Growing efforts to conserve the underwater ecology around Bali are allowing for the recovery of the corals. Volcanic outgrowths, shipwrecks and steep banks offer variety and interest to a diver in Bali. A number of smaller islands also add interest.
