Land of the ancient Jellyfish Tree and the world's largest seed, the archipelago of the Seychelles encompasses 155 islands in the Indian Ocean, northeast of the island of Madagascar, near Zanzibar, Mauritius and the Maldives
The Islands are divided into the following groups: 29 coral islands in the Amirantes, 13 coral islands in the Farquhar, and 67 raised coral islands in the Aldabra Group.
The Inner Islands are the summits of a sunken mountain range. Water temperature can reach up to a warm 29 degrees with great visibility between 25 -30m. Marine locals to these islands include the likes of Butterfly, Angel, Soldier, Squirrel fish and Sweepers and Whale Sharks in season. The variety further encompasses Napoleon Wrasse, Giant Grouper, Reef Sharks and Ribbon-tailed Stingrays. Reefs are adorned with fan and tree coral formations.
The southern Outer Islands remain largely unexplored and are known to exhibit thermoclines between 19 and 27 degrees. They support an infinitely higher concentration of the good stuff. Groupers, spotted Potato Bass, Grey Reef, Silver Tip, Nurse Sharks and Hammerheads join the ranks of 1000 recorded species. Even the comic Yellow Rubber Lipped Sweetlips and rare African Pygmy Angelfish, usually found in Mauritius' deeper waters can be seen here along with the Long Nosed Hawkfish.
