Scuba Diving Article -

Scuba diving is one of the most exciting adventure sports for lovers of marine life.  More and more people are taking up scuba diving as novice courses become more affordable and more diving spots open up for beginners.  If you are considering a scuba diving trip as your next adventure, you need to equip yourself with the right scuba diving gear.  Scuba diving is a fun and safe activity, as long as you know what to take on the trip.

One of the most important pieces of equipment to bring on a scuba diving trip is the scuba mask.  The mask allows you to see clearly, but more importantly, to protect your face from the strong pressure and current, as well as the biting cold underwater.  Flippers are used by divers and snorkelers to improve propulsion through the water.  The flippers attached to the feet allow you to swim from one point to another with minimal effort.

The most critical component of the scuba gear is the air cylinder and the oxygen inside it.  The whole apparatus depends on the air cylinder.  Without this, it is not possible to stay underwater for more than a few minutes without using other equipment such as air decompression equipment or a metal underwater suit.  Other basic gear that you need to bring for the scuba trip include weight belt, buoyancy control device, and a manometer.  It is important to remember that the configuration of your scuba gear changes depending on the type of water your diving in.  Other complementary gear that is not critical, but somewhat required, includes dry suit, dive watch, and a cutter to get you free if you are tangled.

Diving is similar to climbing a mountain since no two diving spots are the same.  If you have some diving experience, but are diving in water that is not familiar to you, it is important to consult someone who has experience with the environment.  This will help you know what equipment to bring for the scuba diving trip.

Once you have your scuba gear packed, do not forget to bring other practical things such as water bottles, sunscreen, and camera.  Preparing for a scuba diving trip is not only about the dive, but also about the preparation that you make before and after the dive.  Make sure that you have ample supplies if you are diving in a remote location.  If you are boarding a yacht for the scuba diving trip, make sure that the boat is checked for maintenance, and you have all necessary communication and navigation gear.

Probably the most important reminder as a responsible diver is to bring enough plastic bags to gather any trash that you see in the ocean.  This is a good way to clean up the diving sites as you enjoy the marine landscape.

You can never be prepared enough on a scuba diving trip since you are visiting an environment that you are not familiar with.  Scuba diving is a great experience once you have acquired the proper training and the right equipment to have a fun, and safe dive.

Read and reread the article..... you did not mention the regs (regulators)!!! Hehehe Ketam always carry, mask (dive centers mask may not fit well, also you must bring own mask if they have prescriptions). Fins are also mainly personal preference but Ketam have two sets (one split one paddle, bring a pair to suit your planned dive spot). Usually Ketam also bring along a snorkel. Most dive spots are also excellent snorkeling spots. Finally Ketam always brings own regs. Because being a life support system, Ketam trust no one to its maintenance and care.

An item always overlooked but Ketam feels very important is the DSMB (or sausage).
