When picking out gear you'll often find yourself spoiled for choice, with a large range of various manufacturers all creating quality products for around the same prices. It is no different with scuba diving computers, you'll find the average price for a regular dive computer to hover at around $600 to $700. And most reviews will be for products which are most economical and most likely to be bought by your every day diver, but what about the elite? What if you're looking for something better than average? Something special, something that surpasses the competition?

The Aqualung Suunto D9 wrist computer costs a bit more than your average dive computer, in fact the price is about double that of an Aeris XR-2 or a Sherwood CG9100. So why would you want to buy one instead of one of the cheaper competitors?

Scuba Diving Article -

Well first of all, it's an Aqualung product. A manufacturer which is known for their high quality products. Secondly, the Aqualung Suunto D9 is not just your normal dive computer, the Suunto D9 is the first diving computer to incorporate both a digital compass and wireless tank reception into an all-in-one wrist device. This means no hassle with an extra hose to your tank, creating more freedom during movement.

The Aqualung Suunto D9 compass displays one's general direction by means of both numerical display of the bearing and a graphical compass rose. This compass can also be used out of the water and allows one to save the data history of one's heading.

Naturally the most interesting point about this device is the wireless transmitter, which allows divers to view their tank pressure which is displayed both graphically and numerically on their wrist device- as well as view their air consumption data. This is ideal for divers whom want the ease of viewing their depth, time and tank pressure all in one easy swoop, without the extra baggage of the usual hose. The Aqualung Suunto D9 also allows for real time air consumption to be stored to the memory.

One is able to use up to three various gas mixes containing 21-100% oxygen with the Aqualung Suunto D9, allowing the diver to switch gasses during the dive. The maximum depth display for the Suunto D9 is 660ft.

The Suunto D9 also incorporates a logbook which which provides a dive profile in graphic format of the real time water temperatures as well as tank pressure.

Should I Buy A Suunto D9?

Now with all the details out of the way, the main question on people’s minds would likely be "Does it really work?", "Is it reliable?" and "How much does it cost?"

Well it definitely does work, in fact it works brilliantly and is likely one of the best dive computers on the market. It is also extremely user friendly and easy to operate, which is a great thing considering all the functions it incorporates. It is also extremely reliable, the Aqualung D9 actually has one of the highest user ratings for any dive computer on the market. Sure you'll be paying for it, but you'll be paying for pure quality.

The package you will most likely be interested in is the complete package including both the wireless transmitter and the wrist computer which goes for around $1500, as I said- not cheap. But it is certainly the one to go for if you have that kind of money. The other options are for the wrist computer itself without the wireless tank transmitter, which will set you back around $1000.

So my advice to you would be if you're looking for a dive computer on a large budget, and want something that's easy to use, revolutionary, stylish, accurate and reliable then you should certainly consider the Aqualung Suunto D9 as your next dive computer.
